 | Victorian Black Lace, Silk and Ivory Parasol Ref: CAT546
A Victorian black silk and lace fringed parasol with carved ivory handle, c1850.
The parasol is 49cm (19") in diameter and the folding ivory handle is 60cm (23-1/2") long when opened. The parasol is white silk on the inside and has black lace detailing on the top. Around the edge there is a cream coloured 10cm (4") fringe which matches the colour of the ivory. On top of the parasol there is a carved ivory finisher, which has a ring and tassel.
The slender handle is carved ivory and the natural ivory markings can be clearly seen in the material. It hinges in the middle and is secured with a sliding brass collar. Parasols with hinged handles are sometimes referred to as 'carriage parasols' and were designed to be more compact when travelling.
The parasol is in excellent vintage condition with some slight discolouration to the folds in the panels and a couple of very small tears to the silk lining. The parasol still opens and closes easily. More Pictures...

RECENTLY ADDED! A Victorian black fringed parasol with carved wood handle, c1850.
The parasol is 49cm (19") in diameter and the painted wood handle is 60cm (23-1/2") long when opened. The parasol is black damask with a white silk lining. It has a black silk 10cm (4") fringe. On top of the parasol there is a carved wood finisher with a black silk fringe. The main canopy has a flower design.

RECENTLY ADDED! A Victorian painted fabric fan with feather fringe, c1850.
The fan has a hand-painted flower design on canvas. The edge of the fan is trimmed with feathers, possibly Ostrich. The laths and guards are made from wood and this looks like English oak.
The fan measures approximately 30cm (12") when closed and opens to a total width of 52cm (20"). It is in excellent vintage condition, with no damage, and all of the feathers are still present. There is a small amount of 'foxing' (brown spots) on back of the fan but no significant staining. This would be an impressive addition to any collection of Victorian memorabilia. More Pictures...

This plain black fan is made from reinforced paper. The laths and guards are made from stained wood and the guards are carved with a flower and foliage design.
The fan measures approximately 27cm (10-1/2") when closed and opens to a total width of 46cm (18"). The fan shows signs of use and the corners of the paper are worn where it has been carried around.

The fan has a hand-painted flower design on brown silk. The laths and guards are made from stained wood and embossed with gold leaf.
The fan measures approximately 34cm (13-1/2") when closed and opens to a total width of 64cm (25"). It is in good vintage condition, with a slight amount of thinning to the silk and some small tears to the edge (see photograph).
