An oval shaped Victorian Whitby Jet picture pendant with an engraved detail.
The pendant has a glazed compartment in the back that would have contained a photograph or lock of hair. The compartment is currently empty.
The pendant measures 2.3cm (1") in thickness and is 5cm (1-7/8") tall, excluding the metal ring, and 4.3cm (1-5/8") wide. The pendant is in very good vintage condition with just one small chip close to the inner border at the front and a surface crack on the rear face, which is probably due to a defect in the jet. This is a modern Whitby Jet pendant with an inset shell cameo of a young woman.
The pendant is a traditional teardrop shape and measures 3.5cm (1.3") excluding the small sterling silver bale. It is 2.2cm (0.9") at the widest point and is nearly 1cm (0.4") in thickness.

 | Victorian Whitby Jet Cameo Pendant Ref: CAT123
This is a Victorian Whitby Jet pendant featuring a young Bacchus (Dionysus), the God of wine.
The pendant is suspended on a Jet loop, which is attached by a pin. This allows the pendant to swing from side to side. The pendant frame is very lightly engraved around the edge, as can bee seen in the photographs.
The carved Jet cameo measures just under 2cm (3/4") by 1.5cm (5/8") and is nearly 1cm (3/8") in thickness. The hair is in the form of vine leaves and so this cameo is either a young Bacchus or one his followers or Bacchantes. The cameo is very well carved with well defined features.
The pendant is a typical teardrop shape and measures 5cm (2") including the Jet bale. It is 2.3cm (7/8") at the widest point. The pendant is in excellent condition. More Pictures...

Small Victorian Vulcanite Plain Locket Ref: CAT530
A small plain oval shaped Victorian Vulcanite locket.
The locket has a plain polished front and back but the inside is beautifully detailed. The compartments are currently empty and there are no windows.
The locket measures 2.6cm (1") by 2.2cm (7/8"), excluding the metal ring. The locket is in very good vintage condition and has retained its original colour. There is one tiny chip to the inner part of the hinge but this is only visible when the locket is open. More Pictures...

 | Vintage Bakelite Cross Pendant Ref: CAT573
RECENTLY ADDED! This is a Vintage cross pendant with raised brass detail.
This pendant is made from Bakelite which is an early plastic. It is rather crude in execution but this makes it quite a charming piece of mock gothic jewellery.
The pendant measures 8.5cm (3-1/4") by 5cm (2"), excluding the suspension ring, and is 4mm (1/4") thick. The pendant has been re-polished and has a good black colour. The only real 'defect' is that the central brass detail is set at a slight angle. This was certainly a manufacturing defect as the brass does not seem to have been reattached. There is also a small surface chip on the back of the pendant, which is only mentioned for completeness. More Pictures...

Large Vulcanite Cross Pendant Ref: CAT527
This is a substantial Victorian Vulcanite cross pendant with vulcanite ring to attach a ribbon or chain.
Vulcanite is made by mixing rubber and sulphur and heating it to form a durable black material. From 1846 onwards, vulcanite was used extensively to simulate Whitby Jet.
